Indian factory fire death toll rises to 43 Indian Prime Minister Modi sends condolences

According to reports, the local fire department received an alarm call at 5:22 am on the 8th and rushed to the scene to rescue them. At present, 56 people have been rescued and rescue activities are still continuing.

The factory involved was reportedly an "illegal plastic factory" where school backpacks, water bottles and other plastic materials were stored. After the fire started, it quickly spread to adjacent buildings.

Most of the casualties were workers sleeping inside the factory, The Times of India said. At present, the injured have been taken to four hospitals in New Delhi. LNJP Hospital in New Delhi confirmed that many of the injured brought to the hospital have died. Delhi Chief Minister ArvindKejriwal described the incident as a "tragedy" and said firefighters were doing their best. Meanwhile, Modi took to social media to say, "The fire is horrific. My heart goes out to those who have lost their loved ones. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. Authorities are providing all possible assistance at the scene of the tragedy."
