Observation on express packaging during ¡°Double Eleven¡±: littering is garbage, recycling can turn it into treasure
People's Net Beijing, November 21 (Founder) "Double Eleven" shopping carnival has passed a week, "spoils" are coming one by one. According to big data company Starmap, the total online sales of "Double 11" this year reached 253.97 billion yuan, and the State Post Bureau predicts that more than 1.5 billion packages will be delivered during the shopping spree. As people joyfully unwrap the packages, there are voices saying that the packaging generated by these packages will put a great pressure on the environment and cause a great waste of resources. So what's the truth? Li Hao, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Peng Yingdeng, a researcher at the National Research Center for Urban Environmental Pollution Control Technology, have their say.
Peng Yingdeng said that the express package is mainly divided into two categories, one is made of fiber carton, which is natural ingredients, and basically harmless to the environment; The other is made of artificial polymer plastic bags and tape, in the case of improper handling may produce white pollution, there is a certain harm to the environment.
For these two types of packaging, what is the more common treatment method at this stage? Both Peng Yingdeng and Li Hao said that the recycling rate of cartons can reach more than 90%, so most cartons will be recycled as pulp or recycled paper materials. As for the treatment of plastic bags and tape, Peng Yingdeng said: "Because plastic bags, tape and so on are not easy to recycle, so many plastic bags, tape and so on are landfill as China's waste, although some are recycled as chemical raw materials or to refining diesel, but the proportion of recycling is still relatively low."
As a landfill plastic bags, tape, etc., will cause harm to the environment? Peng Yingdeng said that because the natural degradation of plastic for a very long time, generally more than 100 years, is considered non-degradable, so landfill treatment will indeed cause potential harm to the ecological environment.
However, the two experts stressed that although the "double eleven" express package number is huge, but it is mainly based on recyclable cartons, for non-recyclable plastic bags, tape and other materials, landfill is not the only way to deal with, as long as it can be properly recycled, not discarded, express packaging can achieve resources. On how to realize the recycling of express packaging, Li Hao made a detailed introduction, "At present, China's waste incineration power generation technology has reached the international advanced level, can be non-degradable plastic waste as energy use, that is, at high temperature incineration power generation, after burning the ash can also make bricks, which is a non-degradable and no recycling value of packaging waste for processing a good way. The public should develop the habit of waste classification, the waste with recycling marks, such as cartons, packaging pads, etc., to the waste recyclers or put into the waste box with recycling marks; The non-recyclable garbage, such as plastic bags, tape, etc., will be put into the ordinary trash can for incineration to generate electricity. "Waste incineration can effectively solve the environmental problems caused by landfills and is cleaner than burning coal for power generation."
In addition, Peng Yingdeng said that there are degradable plastics abroad, such plastics partially or completely use degradable materials, can be partially or completely degradable, but because the cost and price of degradable plastics than traditional plastic products are higher, so we still tend to choose cheap, not environmentally friendly plastics. He believes that in order to make people's use habits from traditional plastics to degradable plastics, the country should strengthen the policy level and advocate everyone to choose degradable plastic products. According to Li, municipal waste management departments should disseminate scientific knowledge to the public about what can be used for high-temperature incineration to generate electricity and what should be recycled in express packages. When the public understands these specific knowledge, they are willing to seriously do a good job of garbage classification and release.
Tips: Recyclable garbage refers to recyclable garbage, such as common life of paper, plastic, glass, metal, fabric and bottles and cans; Non-recyclable garbage refers to garbage in addition to recyclable garbage, such as leftover food, melon peel and core, animal viscera, plant residues and so on.
