On September 10, a Chinese boss of a guest house in Japan posted that Three female Chinese tourists checked into his homestay through short-term rental platform Airbnb, but left a large amount of garbage in the room. The owner of the hostel complained to Airbnb about the littering and claimed the trio for cleaning costs.

The Chinese owner of the hostel reported the incident on Weibo, Posting pictures showing piles of paper towels in the bathroom and on the floor, a chair on the toilet lid, plastic bags in the sink on the stove, and cans and discarded cardboard boxes stacked on the table in the room. The owner said he contacted the three tenants after the incident, and there was a verbal argument between the two.

On the afternoon of September 11, a reporter from Beijing Youth Daily contacted the owner of the hostel who posted his microblog. According to him, the three women who stayed in the above room booked the room through Airbnb in June, and checked in on September 5, and left on September 10. "I went to clean the room at noon on the day they quit the rent, I didn't expect this. I have never encountered this situation before."

The owner of the hotel said that when the three women checked in, he had reminded them that there were three garbage bins on the balcony for sorting and storing garbage. In addition, on Airbnb's booking platform, the owner said that among other important notes, he noted that "Japan has a strict garbage separation policy. Please follow the instructions to separate your garbage and keep your room clean."

"In Japan, it costs about 3,000 yen to clean a room like this, so I complained through the platform, hoping to claim twice the cleaning fee from the tenant." The owner of the homesay provided a screenshot of the complaint to a reporter from the Beiqing Daily, asking the tenant to pay 6,666 yen in compensation.

Yesterday afternoon, Beiqing Daily reporter contacted one of the three tenants, Ms. Yue, said she had commented on the landlord's Weibo post and explained why there was littering behavior.

Ms. Yue said they would like to apologize to the owner and pay compensation. But she said they had put the chairs on the toilet for a reason. The bathroom space was too small and they had left them on the toilet to make it easier for them to get in and out, adding that they had forgotten to take them down in a hurry.

Yue said she has received many harassing phone calls after the owner of the homestay exposed their information, which has attracted many netizens to "criticize" them. Some netizens even stole their personal information. Yue said she tried to negotiate a settlement with the homestay owner but failed.

The hotel owner confirmed to Beiqing Daily reporter that the three female tenants have indeed contacted him, and the two sides are still communicating.
