Carbon fiber reinforced plastic, advanced composite material made of carbon fiber and various resins. Carbon fiber is made of raw materials such as viscose, polyacrylonitrile and asphalt by carbonizing at a temperature of 1000-3000¡æ (see carbonized polymer).
Carbon fiber is an advanced composite material made of various resins. Carbon fiber is made of raw materials such as viscose, polyacrylonitrile and asphalt by carbonizing at a temperature of 1000-3000¡æ (see carbonized polymer), which is divided into high-strength type (strength greater than 250 kgf/mm2, modulus greater than 2.5¡Á104 kgf/mm2, density about 1.7 g/cm3) and high modulus type (or graphite fiber, strength greater than 200 kgf/mm2, modulus greater than 4.0¡Á104 kgf/mm2, density about 1.98 g/cm3). Carbon fiber has a thin diameter of about 7 microns and good processability, but it is not resistant to high temperature oxidation and has poor adhesion to resins, so surface treatment is required.
Carbon fiber reinforced plastics are mainly used in the aviation and aerospace industries; they can also be used in sports equipment, such as tennis rackets, skis, bows, racing cars, racing boats, etc.; they are currently being tried to manufacture the main load-bearing parts of automobiles, such as spring steel plates and drive shafts.
