Carrier-free black masterbatch is a coloring system in Baiyoucai that uses microcrystalline wax as a dispersant as a carrier for masterbatch. It is also produced by the ink method. While improving the dispersibility of the masterbatch, it will not cause compatibility with the target colored plastic and affect the physical properties. Therefore, in general, the difference between carrier-free black masterbatch and ordinary black masterbatch is as the name suggests, one does not contain a plastic carrier, and the other contains a plastic carrier.
The traditional black masterbatch production process is composed of three main components: plastic carrier + colorant + dispersant
The specific production process is:
(1) Ink method: As the name suggests, it is a production method that uses ink color paste in masterbatch production, that is, through three-roll grinding, a low-molecular protective layer is coated on the surface of the pigment. The ground fine color paste is then mixed with the carrier resin, and then plasticized by a two-roll plasticator (also called a double-roll open mill), and finally granulated by a single-screw or twin-screw extruder.
(2) Flushing method: The pigment, water and dispersant are sand-grinded to reduce the pigment particles to less than 1 ¦Ìm, and the pigment is transferred to the oil phase through the phase transfer method, and then dried to obtain the masterbatch. The phase transfer requires an organic solvent and a corresponding solvent recovery device.
(3) Kneading method: After the pigment and the oily carrier are mixed, the pigment is lipophilic and the pigment is washed from the water phase into the oil phase through kneading. At the same time, the oily carrier coats the surface of the pigment to stabilize the dispersion and prevent the pigment from agglomerating.
Currently, China mainly produces black masterbatches using the first ink method. However, due to the different plastic carriers selected, the physical properties and chemical compositions of different types of plastics are very different. Therefore, it is not very compatible with the target colored plastic raw materials. The main problems in the product appearance are: delamination and peeling, pitting and water marks, and a serious reduction in the impact resistance of the product.
