The Chinese name of engineering plastic POM is polyoxymethylene. It is a highly crystalline polymer with a smooth and glossy surface, low water absorption, dimensional stability, wear resistance, high strength, good self-lubrication, good colorability, oil resistance, and peroxide resistance. POM has good comprehensive properties. It is the hardest among thermoplastics and one of the varieties of plastic raw materials with mechanical properties closest to metal. Its tensile strength, bending strength, fatigue resistance, wear resistance and electrical properties are all very good. It can be used for a long time between -40 degrees Celsius and 100 degrees Celsius.

Classification

According to the different molecular chain structures, polyoxymethylene can be divided into homopolyoxymethylene and copolymer polyoxymethylene. The former has higher density, crystallinity and melting point, but poor thermal stability, narrow processing temperature range (10 degrees Celsius), and slightly lower stability to acid and alkali; the latter has lower density, crystallinity and melting point, but good thermal stability, not easy to decompose, and wide processing temperature range (50 degrees Celsius).

Disadvantages

The shortcomings of POM plastic raw materials are: corrosion by strong acid, poor weather resistance, poor adhesion, close thermal decomposition and softening temperatures, and low oxygen limiting index.

Automotive industry: POM plastic raw materials are used to manufacture axles, planetary gear pads, etc. on automobiles, which not only saves copper but also increases service life. It can also be used to make radiator water pipe valves. Radiator box covers, water pumps, impellers, gear housings, carburetor housings, accelerator pedal parts, heater fans, and control levers. Various switches, bearing brackets, regulator handles, brakes, washing pumps and other parts.

Electronic appliances: It can be used for licensed electric wrench housings and switch handles, and can also be used to make parts for telephones, radios, tape recorders, video recorders, televisions, computers, fax machines, timer parts, tape recorder tape seats, etc.

Mechanical equipment: It is used to manufacture various gears, rollers, bearings, conveyor belts, springs, cams, bolts, various pump bodies, shells, impeller friction bearing seats and other structural parts of mechanical equipment.
