A man went into the mountains 239 times in 8 years and picked up more than 60,000 waste bottles
Gao Wei, 50, from Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, goes by the online name "Scavenger". Since October 2015, he has been collecting garbage in the mountains on weekends and holidays. In the past eight years, he has walked more than 2,400 kilometers and collected 69,294 recyclables, including plastic bottles, cans and beer bottles, weighing about 10,679 kilograms. He collected 2,481 kilograms of non-recyclable materials, and donated all the money from selling waste products in a public welfare way.
It is reported that Gao Wei, who works in finance and accounting, has always been sensitive to numbers. Every time he picks up garbage, he will record the number and type in detail, and put some memorable bottles on display in the display case. Usually, he will often share his daily garbage picking on social platforms, hoping to call on more people to take their garbage away when they play.
Gao Wei said in an interview that he had encountered some difficulties and dangers in the process of picking up garbage, such as spraining his back, spraining his foot, meeting poisonous snakes, cutting his leg by barbecue sticks and giving him tetanus, but he never thought of giving up. Gao Wei said that not tired must be false, every time he came back was sore legs, he also bought some treatment equipment, every time he went into the mountain will wear waist and knee protection tools in advance, but he was tired and happy.
"I hope you see my hard process of picking up garbage, they can take the initiative to take the garbage out of the mountain, so that the mountain environment is getting better and better, I don't have to go into the mountain to pick up garbage, can really go to the mountain side to set up a tent, cook a pot of tea, look at the scenery."
