Bi Quanwu: If migrant workers who return to their hometowns to start businesses are not strong in their hearts, they will collapse
CCTV News (Reporter Kong Hua) Bi Quanwu, who came out of the countryside, had the opportunity to settle in Shenzhen, but for the sake of his family, he quit his well-paid job in 2011 and chose to return to his hometown to start a business. In the past five years, from what to do to how to do it, he was once on the verge of collapse. But persistence will reap rewards. Now, he has a second child and a happy family; the products he started have gone abroad, and the company's business is booming...
Young people who have emerged
In the midsummer of 2015, wheat was harvested in a large wheat-producing county in the north. Due to the poor harvest, the quality of wheat made the head of the grain department very entangled. If they did not harvest, the people's hard work for more than half a year would be in vain; if they harvested, the quality of the wheat was too poor and could not meet the national procurement standards. What to do? The locals thought of a way to purchase a color sorter to remove moldy grains, sprouting grains, insect-eaten grains and other inferior wheat before purchasing.
However, most of the color sorters on the market could not meet such large-scale and high-intensity color sorting requirements. The head of the local grain department contacted Bi Quanwu online.
"We are an order-based system. Although we can meet the above conditions technically, we have to hurry up. The wheat over there is piled up like a mountain. If we don't store it in the warehouse, it will breed more insects. It's really urgent." Bi Quanwu said that in the next 10 days, he and 10 employees of the company worked overtime in the workshop. In the first three days and two nights, they didn't close their eyes. After that, every day, they ate and lived in the company and the workshop. When they were tired, they rested on the spot. When they were hungry, they ate some biscuits and boxed lunches. Finally, on the 10th day, they completed the task and delivered the color sorter to the grain depot.
Compared with other machines at the grain depot, in one hour, the same model of color sorter, other manufacturers' machines can only color sort about 10 tons of wheat, while the color sorter developed by Bi Quanwu can select more than 20 tons. Not only that, Bi Quanwu's machine can also operate 24 hours a day without interruption and without trouble.
This emergence not only solved the grain department's procurement dilemma and the problem of thousands of farmers' grain sales difficulties, but also let the industry know that there is a "Bida Color Sorting" in Hefei, Anhui, and there is a young man named Bi Quanwu in the color sorting industry.
What to do after returning to start a business for the first time?
Growing up in the countryside, Bi Quanwu, who walked out of the countryside, worked in a well-known home appliance company in Shenzhen from 2002 to 2011. If he had not resigned and returned to his hometown, he would have settled in Shenzhen long ago.
"Once I went home for the New Year and found that my daughter didn't recognize me and didn't want me to hold her. My self-esteem was greatly hit." Bi Quanwu, who is not good at speaking, said that he had been separated from his wife for many years, and small things were prone to big conflicts. In addition, the children were getting older. After considering for a long time, he resigned from his well-paid job in Shenzhen in 2011 and returned to his hometown-Youfang Village, Yaohai District, Hefei City, Anhui Province, to start a business.
What to do after returning?
Bi Quanwu is the "first person to develop ultra-short tube TVs" and the first person to develop module research institutes. He has participated in the cooperation of key projects and won the third prize of Shenzhen Science and Technology Progress Award. He and his colleagues also applied for national science and technology projects. After returning to Hefei, he went to relevant home appliance companies for job hunting, but he had to work in Qingdao, Jiangsu and other places, and he still had to be separated from his family. After repeated consideration, Bi Quanwu chose to start a business.
When starting a business in the countryside, what everyone thinks about most is breeding.
Bi Quanwu invested 50,000 yuan, contracted land, dug pools, built water troughs... and partnered with a relative to raise loaches.
"It would be better if we started breeding at the beginning of the year, because the temperature is getting higher and higher, which is conducive to the growth of loaches; we have no experience, and we started breeding in autumn. The temperature is getting lower and lower, and loaches not only do not grow, but because the soil is too thin, loaches can't burrow into the soil to avoid the cold, and the result is that the 50,000 investment has gone down the drain." Summarizing his experience, Bi Quanwu found that entrepreneurship should start from a field that he is familiar with.
Starting a business again from a familiar field
According to incomplete statistics, about 60% of the world's color sorters are produced in China, and more than 90% of China's color sorters are produced in Hefei.
After returning to Hefei, a color sorting company found Bi Quanwu, hoping that he could provide technical support. During this period, Bi Quanwu found that the color sorting industry lacked talent and technology needed to be improved. Bi Quanwu, who had rich electronic information technology, had the idea of starting his own business.
"The principle of the color sorter is to convert the image into a signal through the machine vision system and spectral response analysis, and send the signal to the brain, and the brain commands to separate and remove things with different colors, materials and shapes." Bi Quanwu introduced that the color sorter was originally widely used in the selection of rice. With the development of modern agriculture, the color sorter was gradually used in the selection of Chinese medicinal materials, corn, wheat, wolfberry, coffee, and peanuts; at the same time, the color sorter began to shift from being suitable for agriculture to industry, such as the selection of plastics, minerals, and renewable resources. However, this puts higher requirements on the performance of the color sorter.
In 2012, Bi Quanwu and several other shareholders invested 5 million yuan to jointly apply for Anhui BiDa Optoelectronic Technology Co., Ltd.; in 2013, they developed their own products and achieved sales of more than 4 million yuan that year; just when Bi Quanwu felt good, the market played a joke on him in 2014. Because all the products were exported before, affected by the international economic situation, sales were basically zero in 2014. This year, serious disagreements occurred within Bi Quanwu's shareholder team. "If the will is a little weak, it will not persist; if the heart is not strong enough, it will collapse."
Bi Quanwu reorganized the company internally and repurchased equity with real estate mortgage loans. In the form of equity incentives, he recruited a group of college students to become his apprentices and shareholders, and began to develop high-tech and special color sorting machines.
Persistence is hope. The company moved from the original rural factory of more than 1,000 square meters to the Urban Science and Technology Industrial Park in Yaohai District, covering an area of more than 2,000 square meters. When the company was first established, it was in a remote countryside and it was difficult to find a place to eat; now, the industrial park where the company is located is fully equipped, and there is no need to worry about food, accommodation and transportation.
Starting a business, the company's business has stepped up
In 2015, Bi Quanwu adjusted his strategy in a timely manner. While customizing products for foreign customers, he targeted the Chinese market and signed contracts with many giants in the petrochemical, beverage, and solar energy industries. The company's operations gradually got on track, and sales in the first quarter of this year exceeded 2 million yuan.
The color sorter that Bi Quanwu customized for the petrochemical giant is specifically used to select plastic particles-selecting particles with black spots or impurities in plastic particles. These particles are about 2 mm in diameter. The color sorting standard is that no more than two unqualified products can be produced in 25 kg (a snakeskin bag). Due to the good color sorting effect, which greatly improves the quality of plastic particles, the company intends to install another color sorting machine production line.
At the beginning of 2015, a company in Guangdong ordered a color sorting machine for quartz sand from Bi Quanwu Company with the mentality of giving it a try. This year, they ordered another 7 machines.
"Foreign customers find us through exhibitions and the Internet. This year, we have ordered 5 color sorting machines for Russia, India, Bolivia, Serbia and other countries." Bi Quanwu said with a smile. What surprised him even more was that "you don't need to speak too much English when doing business with foreign businessmen, because many people can speak Chinese."
On May 13, when the reporter was interviewing Bi Quanwu's workshop, two Taiwanese businessmen who processed peanuts in Vietnam came to discuss business and immediately ordered two machines.
As the company's business gradually stepped up, Bi Quanwu was under greater pressure.
"I only have time to write code in front of the computer after I finish my work in finance, sales and management. Tens of thousands of code addresses are like closed doors, and each one must be opened for testing." Bi Quanwu said that as an innovative enterprise that has just started, it is necessary to constantly innovate and make continuous progress to get a share of the already solidified market.
However, every day when he returns home, Bi Quanwu's fatigue disappears. In 2014, he added "Second Baby", and a pair of children make up a "good" one.
"Although it is very hard and tiring, I have never regretted returning to my hometown to start a business." Bi Quanwu said.
