The report said the aircraft being auctioned was a twin-engine McDonnell Douglas DC-9 short-haul jet with the tail number N681AL. It was part of the Presidential Air Force from 1975 to 2005. Photos on the GSA website show the cabin's decor: large leather chairs, tables and pullout sofas installed in three colors, as well as a kitchen decorated with blue plastic panels.
It is reported that all secret equipment will be removed from the plane before it is sold, starting with all government liaison equipment. The auction is scheduled to take place on May 15. In addition to former presidential planes, ships, cars and parts of space shuttles, heavy construction machinery and scientific equipment no longer needed by the U.S. government will be auctioned.
