Toray launches recycled environmentally friendly PET film
Toray Industries developed Ecouse® Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film. By collecting used film from electronic component applications and recycling it into environmentally friendly film, thus successfully achieving sustainable economy, it has successfully constructed a recycling system.
The company aims to start full-scale sales of the new product after establishing an annual production capacity of 2,500 tonnes.
Therefore, Toray began to work with companies throughout the supply chain to demonstrate successful efforts in setting up and running a system to collect and reuse PET films in electronic component applications. Combined with mechanical recycling process technology, Toray removes coatings and resins from the surface of the film by grinding, washing, separating, drying, re-pelleting and mixing, and employs foreign matter removal technology in each manufacturing process, thus being able to do so without compromising mechanical properties or reliability. The resulting Ecouse® A range of environmentally friendly PET films can help reduce the consumption of raw materials derived from fossil fuels and waste plastics, while reducing the CO2 emissions generated by recycling waste film into film production by 30% to 50%.
Toray Co., LTD.
Ecouse® Is a brand of recycled materials and products, Toray has been marketed worldwide since 2015. The company has traditionally reused waste from its manufacturing process as film feedstock. Now it will develop Ecouse® by using customers' recycled materials; Series PET membrane to accelerate the deployment of its recycled membrane. Toray hopes to build more recycling systems and manufacturing units to expand the variety of collection membrane applications other than electronic components.
Various applications for PET film include electronic components, packaging materials and display items. The relatively short supply chain of electronic components from film production to disposal has prompted consideration of recycling systems.
However, the challenge lies in the lack of technology to remove various coatings, resins and other materials from every process in the supply chain. This hinders the reuse of materials in the film, so the focus has been on waste disposal and heat recovery.
It also Ecouse® 's use to other lines of film and film processing products.
