Blown Film

  • Mar 28, 2025

Blown film is one of the methods for forming plastic films. The process is to melt and plasticize the resin using an extruder to extrude it into a thin-walled tube. Then, under the action of a traction device, the polymer has a good flow state at this time, and compressed air is used to blow it into the required thickness. After cooling and shaping, it becomes a film. The raw materials currently used for blown film include PE, PVC, PDVC, PP, PS, PA, EVA, PVA, etc. In addition to single-layer films, multi-layer composite films have also been developed.

Basic Introduction

Compared with other plastic film production methods, extrusion blown film has the advantages of simple equipment, low investment, high machine utilization, simple operation, no waste edges, low cost and easy to start up by local methods. In addition, the film is pulled and blown, and the mechanical properties are improved. The finished product is cylindrical, and the welding process can be omitted for packaging. The disadvantages of extrusion blown film are poor uniformity of film thickness, low cooling rate, low transparency of the film, and limited by the cooling rate. The winding line speed generally does not exceed 10m/min, and the output is low.
