Talc Masterbatch

Talc masterbatch is a plastic modified filler, which refers to the granules formed by mixing talc with polymers or other carriers. It is mainly used to improve the properties of rubber, plastic resin, etc., and can significantly improve the stiffness, high temperature creep resistance, heat resistance and other properties of the filling material.

Talc is a natural magnesium silicate with four types of particles: fibrous, lamellar, needle-shaped and standard (frozen stone type). But only the lamellar type is used in industry. The lamellar sandwich structure of talc has a certain water resistance and high chemical inertness in each layer, so it has good chemical corrosion resistance and sliding properties.

Preparation method and function

It can be used as an engineering plastic to fill polyethylene with it, which has good chemical corrosion resistance and fluidity. Filling polyethylene with it can be used as an engineering plastic, which can compete with ABS, nylon, and polycarbonate. Filling polyethylene with it can improve the following properties: improve toughness, flexural modulus and torsional modulus; improve flexural strength; reduce creep tendency at room temperature and high temperature; increase thermal transition temperature and dimensional stability; improve deformation and warping, and also have a lower thermal expansion coefficient; improve thermal conductivity; improve the surface hardness and finish of molded parts; and improve the mechanical strength of polyethylene.

Talc masterbatch has good plasticization after ultra-fine treatment and special surface modification, which can improve the surface rigidity of PP products and greatly improve the heat resistance temperature of PP products. It is suitable for PP tableware, sheets, pallets, auto parts, microwave disposable lunch boxes, bumpers and various injection-molded heat-resistant home appliance shells. Its addition amount is the highest, which greatly reduces the cost of the finished product. It does not affect the quality and gloss of the product, and is acid-resistant, alkali-resistant, high-temperature-resistant, non-toxic and tasteless.

Application

It is mainly used in PP, EP, PO, PS, ABS and other related industries.

1. Application of polyethylene blown film:

Using ultrafine talcum powder (1250 mesh, 2500 mesh) masterbatch to fill injection-molding grade high-density polyethylene composite materials, in addition to the obvious improvement of the above-mentioned properties, the tensile strength of this composite material increases, and it increases to the maximum value when adding 10%, and it can still maintain the original strength when adding 30%, and the impact strength increases slightly. For polyethylene blown film, filling ultrafine talcum powder masterbatch is better than other fillers, easy to form and good processability. Moreover, this kind of film can reduce the oxygen permeability by 80%, which is particularly suitable for packaging oil-containing foods such as peanuts, broad beans, etc., and keep oil-free and non-deteriorating for a long time: this kind of film can reduce the water vapor permeability by 70%, has good moisture resistance, is very suitable for underground geotextile moisture-proof cloth, and is also suitable for packaging foods such as ham, sausage, cheese, etc.

2. Application in ABS resin:

Ultrafine talcum powder masterbatch is made by special method and has good dispersibility and uniformity when added to plastic. ABS resin is an amorphous polymer with excellent molding processability like polystyrene; it has good impact strength, good low temperature resistance, high tensile strength and good creep resistance, and can withstand 7Mpa load without size change. Therefore, it is often used for injection molding of various instruments, televisions, recorders, mobile phones and other shells. Of course, it is also widely used in other fields such as textile equipment, electrical parts, automotive parts, aircraft parts, etc. However, people are not satisfied with the existing performance of ABS, and the research on ABS modification has been widely carried out, and there are not a few relevant materials published.

For example, the automobile instrument panel blister made by blending ABS and PVC, and the imitation leather bag mask made by blending ABS and PVC are not only high in strength and toughness, but also able to maintain the durability of the surface pattern. This blended material is filled with ultrafine calcium carbonate or ultrafine talcum powder, which can significantly improve the notched impact strength and tear resistance of the blended material. For example, adding 5-15% ultrafine calcium carbonate can increase the notched impact strength by 2-4 times.

Because ABS is an amorphous polymer, it has the function of accommodating more fillers. Adding ultrafine talcum powder masterbatch can not only significantly improve the original performance of ABS, but also reduce costs.

3. Application in polystyrene resin:

Unmodified general-purpose polystyrene is an amorphous polymer. It is hard and brittle, but it has good electrical properties, aging resistance and high dimensional stability. The disadvantage is that it is highly brittle and sensitive to environmental stress cracking. Adding ultrafine talcum powder masterbatch can improve impact toughness, adjust rheology, significantly improve flexural modulus, and also improve tensile yield strength. For example: adding 40% ultrafine talcum powder masterbatch, the flexural modulus increases from 23800kg/cm2 to 58800kg/cm2, and the tensile strength increases from 336kg/cm2 to 385kg/cm2.
