Plastic pipes

  • Apr 01, 2025

Plastic pipes are a general term for pipes made of plastic. Plastic pipes are favored by the pipeline engineering industry for their light weight, sanitation and safety, low water flow resistance, energy saving, metal saving, improved living environment, long service life, safety and convenience. In the past 10 years, driven by the rapid development of China's macro-economy, China's plastic pipes have experienced rapid development against the background of the great development of chemical building materials.

In 2010, the national plastic pipe output exceeded 8 million tons, of which Guangdong, Zhejiang and Shandong accounted for 42% of the output. Plastic pipes have many advantages over traditional metal pipes and concrete pipes in many fields, so they have been recommended for use in many regions.

Development

Compared with traditional cast iron pipes, galvanized steel pipes, cement pipes and other pipes, plastic pipes have the advantages of energy saving and material saving, environmental protection, light weight and high strength, corrosion resistance, smooth inner wall without scaling, simple construction and maintenance, and long service life. They are widely used in building water supply and drainage, urban and rural water supply and drainage, urban gas, electricity and optical cable sheathing, industrial fluid transportation, agricultural irrigation and other construction, municipal, industrial and agricultural fields.

In recent years, with the continuous increase in market demand in the construction industry, municipal engineering, water conservancy engineering, agriculture and industry, China's plastic pipe industry has shown a rapid development trend. In 2009, the production of plastic pipes was 5.804 million tons, an increase of 18.9% year-on-year. From January to September 2010, the production of plastic pipes was 5.528 million tons, an increase of 28.23% year-on-year. At the same time, as consumers' requirements for environmental protection, health and durability of products continue to increase, the quality level of China's plastic pipes continues to improve while the output increases, the industry's technological progress continues to accelerate, the number of brand-scale enterprises continues to increase, new materials and new structural varieties continue to emerge, advanced system design concepts emerge in an endless stream, the functionality of products is more obvious, and the application field is further broadened. Analysis shows that China's plastic pipe market share currently accounts for more than 30% of all pipes.

By 2015, in the new construction, reconstruction and expansion projects across the country, 85% of building drainage pipes use plastic pipes, 80% of building rainwater drainage pipes use plastic pipes, the use of plastic pipes in urban drainage pipes reaches 50%, 85% of building water supply, hot water supply and heating pipes use plastic pipes, 80% of urban water supply pipes (DN400mm or less) use plastic pipes, 90% of village water supply pipes use plastic pipes, the application of urban gas plastic pipes (medium and low pressure pipes) reaches 40%, and 90% of building wire threading sheath pipes use plastic pipes. It is predicted that during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, China's plastic pipe production will maintain a growth rate of about 10%. By 2015, the national plastic pipe production is expected to be close to 12 million tons, and the market share of plastic pipes in various types of pipes in the country will exceed 60%.

Plastic pipes are an important branch of many components of chemical building materials. The application areas of plastic pipes are usually water supply, drainage, gas, floor heating, power communication, agriculture, fire protection and other fields. From the different classifications of chemical materials used, plastic pipes can be divided into polyethylene (PE) pipes, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes, polypropylene (PP) pipes, ABS pipes, polybutylene (PB) pipes, etc.

According to Luo Baihui, Secretary General of the International Mold and Hardware Plastic Industry Suppliers Association, China's plastic pipe market economy is relatively fierce. There are more than 3,000 large-scale plastic pipe manufacturers with an annual production capacity of more than 15 million tons. There are 300 companies with an annual production capacity of more than 10,000 tons, and more than 20 companies with an annual production capacity of more than 100,000 tons. In the field of small-caliber home decoration, the competition is fierce and the threshold is not high, making the layout of sales network the foundation of the development of leading enterprises; in the field of engineering projects, product production barriers and transportation radius restrictions make leading enterprises focus on technology research and development and scale expansion.

During the "12th Five-Year Plan", there is no lack of demand highlights in the field of plastic pipes: housing construction and municipal engineering still provide stable domestic demand, but there is short-term regulatory pressure; water conservancy construction policies are strongly supported, with an average annual investment of 400 billion, greatly increasing the demand for pipes; rural drinking water safety system construction and building materials going to the countryside drive the demand for plastic pipes to upgrade; gas supply system and heating consumption trends will also bring incremental demand. China has currently established a plastic pipe processing and application industry based on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials, polyethylene (PE) materials and polypropylene (PP) materials, and these three types of materials account for the main supply of plastic pipes. PVC has the most complete supporting industrial chain and the support of domestic raw materials, which has enabled PVC pipes to occupy half of the market in recent years. With the upgrading of consumption and the development of chemical materials driving the upgrading of pipelines, China's PE, PP and other pipes will increase their demand share in the future.

In 2012, global plastic pipe supply experts will focus on the spring breeze of water conservancy development, seize the historic opportunity of affordable housing construction, deepen product structure, and achieve better results.

Due to the characteristics of chemical building materials products with good corrosion resistance, light weight, low energy consumption in production and application, and convenient construction, plastic pipes made of chemical materials are widely used in engineering construction, urban construction and village construction. Although China's chemical building materials development history is relatively short, China's chemical building materials have developed rapidly, and the fields of pipes, doors and windows, waterproof materials, coatings, etc. have been fully developed.

Plastic pipes can be classified according to their materials and main fields of use. From the perspective of different classifications of chemical materials used, plastic pipes can be divided into polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes, polyethylene (PE) pipes, polypropylene (PP) pipes, polybutylene (PB) pipes, ABS pipes, etc. Generally speaking, HDPE (high-density PE), LDPE (low-density PE) and other PE pipes are collectively referred to as PE pipes, while PVC-C and PVC-U pipes are collectively referred to as PVC pipes. PVC pipe system developed the earliest and is currently the largest in terms of usage. PE and PP pipes developed later, but have grown rapidly in recent years. At present, the world has formed an industrial structure dominated by PVC-U, PE and PPR pipes.

Classification

1. Commonly used plastic pipes include: PPR (polypropylene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), PB (polybutylene), PE-RT (heat-resistant polyethylene), PE (polyethylene) \\ HDPE (reinforced high-density polyethylene), etc.

2. The size specifications of plastic pipes are generally expressed by outer diameter. For example, PPR pipe: De63

3. The service life of plastic pipes is determined according to GB/T18252-2000 "Determination of long-term hydrostatic strength of thermoplastic plastic pipes by extrapolation method for plastic pipe systems". This is a method that uses the results of the hydrostatic strength test of pipes to statistically extrapolate and predict the long-term strength performance of thermoplastic materials or products. This method is mostly used internationally to estimate that at a temperature of 20буC, the life of plastic pipes is generally 50 years.

Fourth, the molding equipment for plastic pipes is an injection molding machine, which is used to mold pipes through professional injection molding machines.

Five, there are generally two ways to connect plastic pipes: hot melt and adhesive.

VI. The main standards for plastic pipes are:

1. PPR (polypropylene): GB/T18742.1, GB/T18742.2, GB/T18742.3

2. PVC (polyvinyl chloride): GB/T10002.1-2006, GB/T10002.2-2003

3. PE (polyethylene): GB15558, GB/T13663

4. HDPE (reinforced high-density polyethylene): GB/T19472.2-2004

VII. Comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of plastic pipes and traditional metal pipes:

1. Advantages: Compared with traditional metal pipes, plastic pipes have light weight, corrosion resistance, and high compressive strength.

2. Disadvantages: (1) When recycling discarded plastic pipes, classification is very difficult and economically uneconomical. (2) Plastic pipes are easy to burn. When a fire or other accident occurs, plastic pipes will produce toxic gases when they burn. For example, polystyrene produces toluene when it burns. A small amount of this substance can cause blindness and vomiting when inhaled. PVC also produces toxic hydrogen chloride gas when it burns. In addition to burning, high temperature environment will cause the corresponding plastic material to decompose into toxic components, such as benzene rings. (3) Plastic pipe supply limitations, because the raw material of plastic pipes is made of petroleum refining products, and petroleum resources are limited. (4) Many plastic raw materials used to make pipes are non-degradable plastics, so they will bring a large amount of garbage to society.

VIII. Brief analysis of the technical reform of the pipeline industry caused by plastic pipes

The traditional pipeline network is mainly composed of steel pipes, cast iron pipes, cement pipes and clay pipes. Traditional pipeline materials generally have the characteristics of high energy consumption and easy environmental pollution. At the same time, the pipeline network also has the following disadvantages: в┘ Short service life, generally 5-10 years; в┌ Poor chemical and corrosion resistance; в█ Poor hydraulic performance; в▄ High construction cost and long cycle; в▌ Poor pipeline integrity and easy leakage, etc. Since the mid-20th century, countries around the world, especially developed countries, have been developing special materials for plastic pipes and using plastic pipes.

From 2000 to 2010, plastic pipes developed very rapidly. Plastic pipes are increasingly favored in life and industrial applications for their environmental protection and safety, playing an important and irreplaceable role. Especially in the construction industry, plastic pipes can not only replace steel, wood, and traditional building materials in large quantities, but also have the advantages of energy saving, material saving, ecological protection, improvement of living environment, improvement of building functions and quality, reduction of building self-weight, and convenient completion. They are widely used in building water supply and drainage, urban water supply and drainage, and gas pipes. The growth rate of plastic pipes is about 4 times the average growth rate of pipes, which is much higher than the growth rate of the national economy of various countries. Replacing cast iron pipes and galvanized steel pipes with environmentally friendly green plastic pipes has become a trend of development in the new century. Plastic pipes have been successfully developed and widely used in developed countries, especially in Europe; their development in China is relatively lagging, but in recent years, with the enhancement of China's comprehensive national strength and the improvement of people's living standards, plastic pipes have developed by leaps and bounds.

Varieties and applications of plastic pipes After rapid development in the past few years, China's plastic pipes have developed into a building materials industry with a relatively complete variety and large-scale production capacity. The main varieties of plastic pipes are: UPVC pipes, CPVC pipes, PE pipes, PAP pipes, PE-X pipes, PP-B pipes, PP-R pipes, PB pipes, ABS pipes, steel-plastic composite pipes, glass fiber reinforced pipes, etc. They are widely used in water supply pipes and drainage pipes for buildings, buried water supply pipes, drainage pipes, gas pipes in cities, water supply and drainage pipes and irrigation pipes for rural areas, as well as industrial sewage and wastewater and chemical fluid transportation, etc., meeting the different needs of pipes in various fields of the national economy. We should develop and produce a certain type of plastic pipe according to the characteristics and application occasions of various pipes.

IX. A brief analysis of the development of China's plastic pipe industry

After years of hard work, China has established a plastic pipe processing and application industry mainly based on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes, polyethylene (PE) pipes and polypropylene (PP) pipes. From the material point of view, PVC-U, PE and PP general plastics are still the largest varieties. Taking 2005 as an example, PVC pipes accounted for more than 55% of the total and are still the leading product; PE pipes accounted for more than 25% of the total; PP pipes accounted for about 10% of the total. Hard products (PVC-U) are the vast majority of PVC pipes, mainly used for water supply, drainage and sheathing; PE pipes are mainly used for water supply and gas transportation; PP-R is the main variety of PP pipes, which is mainly used for cold and hot water transportation in buildings. After the development was hindered by some enterprises focusing only on short-term behavior and ignoring quality, it has made great progress and has gradually recovered its influence. Some new material pipes have also made great technological progress. Composite pipes made of plastic and plastic, plastic and metal, and plastic and other materials have developed rapidly. The use of cross-linked polyethylene (PEX), ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer (ABS), polybutylene (PB), heat-resistant polyethylene (PE-RT), chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (PVC-C) and modified materials has also increased.

In recent years, the pipe structure is no longer dominated by solid wall pipes. The use of corrugated pipes has increased, the internal spiral structure has played a special role in building drainage, and the use of winding pipes in drainage, sewage and water delivery has increased. China has become one of the countries with the most varieties of plastic pipes.

Brand

Relevant data show that the annual growth rate of China's plastic pipe market has reached 15%, ranking first in the world. China's plastic pipe market has huge room for growth.

The 18th CPC National Congress proposed new urbanization. The urbanization development plan drafted by the National Development and Reform Commission is expected to be issued in 2013. For every 1% increase in urbanization, urban water consumption will increase by 3.2 billion tons. Urban waterlogging exposed in rapid urbanization will usher in a major upgrade in urban pipe network construction. New urbanization will also vigorously promote green buildings. The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has issued the "12th Five-Year Plan for Green Buildings and Green Ecological Urban Districts", and will select 100 new urban areas for planning, construction and operation in accordance with the standards of green ecological urban districts.

In order to respond to the call of national policies and advocate energy conservation and environmental protection in the plastic pipe industry, the 2013 Fifth China Plastic Pipeline Bidding and Procurement Evaluation Activity specially established the "New Urbanization Outstanding Contribution Award" and "Green Building Preferred Brand" to commend outstanding enterprises and guide more enterprises to achieve healthy development through concept and technological innovation.

1. The application field is further expanded

In addition to municipal and building water supply and drainage pipes, which are still the main uses, agricultural (drinking water, irrigation and drainage) pipes continue to grow, and the application proportion of municipal sewage, gas, heating, urban non-excavation construction, communications, electricity, mining and other industries has also increased further. Plastic pipes have now been widely used in building water supply and drainage, building heating, urban gas transmission, rural biogas gas transmission, urban tap water, municipal drainage, sewage, rural human and livestock drinking water transformation, agricultural irrigation, drainage, electricity, communications, industry and many other fields. Some people praise plastic pipes as the blood vessels of the city, and plastic pipes are inseparable from our lives.

2. Scientific and technological progress is accelerating

During the "15th Five-Year Plan", the rapid growth of the plastic pipe industry promoted the technological progress of the industry. Especially with the increase of international exchanges, many enterprises attach great importance to international cutting-edge technology, the development of new products and the introduction of new technologies. While introducing advanced processing equipment, they continue to strengthen the research and development of new products. Some large enterprises have their own research and development centers with advanced levels and strong technical strength. At present, China's plastic pipe industry has more than 300 inventions and new patent technologies. Some products with independent intellectual property rights are in a leading position internationally. The gap between the technical level and that of developed countries is gradually narrowing. It has developed from simply replacing imports to international export of products. There are more and more varieties, structures, new materials, new technologies, new processes and patent projects of plastic pipes, and various types of plastic pipes play their respective advantages in different uses.

Enterprise Way Out

Coordinate One: Technological Innovation

At present, technological innovation has become the main driving force for enterprise development. The backbone enterprises in the plastic pipe industry attach great importance to the introduction of new technologies and the research and development of new products. While introducing advanced processing equipment, they continue to strengthen their research and development. Some large enterprises also have advanced technology and product research and development centers.

According to incomplete statistics, China's plastic pipe industry has more than 1,000 patented technologies, and some products with independent intellectual property rights have taken the international leading position. There are more and more new varieties, new structures, new materials, new technologies, new processes and patent projects for plastic pipes.

However, at present, some plastic pipe manufacturers in China do not invest much in product innovation. There are relatively few new products with high performance, high technology content and high added value. There are many similar general products and medium and low-end products on the market. For some plastic pipe varieties, the industry does not pay enough attention to the research work of basic theory, and only stays in the initial stage of product production and application. This requires the entire industry to further increase investment in technology research and development, improve independent research and development capabilities, improve scientific and technological innovation capabilities, improve product precision, and strive to enhance the competitiveness of the industry and enterprises.

Coordinate 2: Safety and Environmental Protection

The safety and environmental protection performance of products is also increasingly valued by the whole society. At present, China has established a plastic pipe processing industry mainly based on polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) materials. "PPR pipes and PE pipes have higher technological content and are more environmentally friendly than PVC pipes. With the competition and development of the industry, the future development direction will definitely be towards better quality and more environmentally friendly pipe varieties."

Coordinate 3: Industry Concentration

In recent years, the industrial concentration of the plastic pipe industry has become increasingly high. It is currently mainly concentrated in coastal and economically developed areas. The combined production of Guangdong, Zhejiang and Shandong provinces has exceeded one-third of the national total. Some companies have invested in building or expanding production bases in Tianjin, Northeast China, Central China, and Western China to increase production capacity to meet the gradual expansion of local demand.
