Vacuum Forming mold

  • Mar 28, 2025

Vacuum Forming mold refers to the mold used in Vacuum Forming production. The lowest cost is the gypsum mold, followed by the electroplated copper mold, and the most expensive is the aluminum mold. The mold is drilled with small holes for vacuum adsorption of heated hard film to form Vacuum Forming products.

Overview

The gypsum mold mainly uses yellow Vacuum Forming hand-plate gypsum powder; if the drawing is provided, the gypsum material is milled and the mold is made by hand according to the drawing data and requirements; if the real object is provided, the contour of the mold is first completed with hand-made mud, vacuum-formed into a vacuum cover, and then the gypsum mold is re-made and the mold is modified and completed; it takes about 2-4 days; the gypsum mold is easy to make, the time is short, which is conducive to the modification of product packaging, the price is low, but the durability is low, after a period of use, it is easy to damage, and the transparency of the product produced is poor; it is mainly suitable for the first board confirmation and products with low requirements for the transparency of the outer packaging.

The plastic mold is usually made according to the product design requirements. After the plaster mold is made, the vacuum cover is produced with the plaster mold. The special high-temperature resistant resin material is injected into the vacuum cover. After the mold is completely dry, it is drilled and polished. It takes about 3-5 days. The price of resin mold is higher than that of copper mold and plaster mold, but the degree of use is equivalent to that of copper mold. It is more durable and can solve some technical problems that copper mold and plaster mold cannot handle, such as water marks on the wall of the product. This type of mold can have a better effect. It is mainly suitable for products with special requirements such as electronics, toys, medicine, food, and automotive products.

Bakelite mold

All kinds of bakelite molds are made of imported heating materials, Japanese high-temperature adhesive tapes and high-quality copper nails. They have the characteristics of uniform heating and good sealing effect. They can be applied to various types of disc machines, Taiwan-made push-pull machines and fully automatic chain machines. They are mainly used in the heat sealing packaging of paper cards and Vacuum Forming shells.

Electrolytic copper mold

According to the product design requirements, after making the plaster mold, use the plaster mold to produce the vacuum cover, put the vacuum cover in the electrolytic cylinder, and when the surface reaches 0.5-0.8MM thick, inject the mold with plaster, inject the vacuum pores, and polish the mold surface to be smooth, then it can be used; it takes about 3-5 days; it belongs to the metal mold category, so it is more durable, and the products produced by this type of mold have better appearance and transparency; the mold production price is low, and the use is relatively wide, it is usually the preferred mold; it is mainly suitable for electronics, toys, stationery, cosmetics, automotive products... and other products with higher requirements.

Alloy aluminum mold

According to the provided drawings or samples, the program is produced through CAM and other programming software, and the processing is completed by CNC machine tools, and then other things such as pores and undercut positions are completed manually, and the mold is polished smooth. If there are special requirements, Teflon spraying or sandblasting is required. Made of aluminum materials such as ZL401, 6061 and 7075, this type of mold has high precision and the contours and angles of the products produced are beautiful, and the durability is very high. The price is also the highest among the four types of molds; it is mainly suitable for products with high appearance and size requirements such as electronics, gifts, toys, medicine, stationery, etc.; in fact, alloy aluminum molds are the preferred molds for large-scale and high-demand Vacuum Forming production. Compared with plaster molds, copper molds, and rubber molds, they are more durable, time-saving and power-saving, high production efficiency, and extremely low scrap rate.

Heat-sealing mold

The heat-sealing mold is made of high-quality copper or alloy aluminum, mainly for the problem of high-frequency heat sealing of PET; Teflon is used for surface treatment to prevent PET from sticking to the mold; the edge pattern is computer engraved, with clear lines and uniform size, and various patterns can be customized according to user requirements.

High frequency mold

The material of high frequency mold is high quality pressing line, the cutting knife is laser knife, the cutting edge is smooth without any burr or tearing; the pressing edge pattern is computer engraved, the pattern is clear, the size is uniform, and various patterns can be customized according to user requirements; the aircraft hole can be made according to the actual sample or drawing provided by the customer; it is mainly used for the welding of double bubble shell (PVC or PETG).

Knife punching mold

Mainly used for punching and punching (round hole, aircraft hole and butterfly hole)

Note: Without considering knife mold and punching mold, the mold used for Vacuum Forming production has the lowest cost of plaster mold, followed by electroplated copper mold, and the most expensive is aluminum mold. The mold is drilled with small holes for vacuum adsorption of heated hard sheets to form Vacuum Forming products.

Production requirements

The mold is the basic process equipment for the production of mechanical industry and an indispensable tool for the production of industrial products. The performance of the mold made of mold steel needs to be strictly supervised by the production process, and the raw materials for the production of the mold must also be strictly checked to prevent the mold from forming defects such as heat treatment cracking due to material problems.

The control of the raw materials of the mold is carried out from the following aspects:

1. Macro inspection

The chemical composition is decisive for ensuring the performance of steel, but the qualified composition cannot fully explain the performance of steel. Due to the inhomogeneity of the internal organization and composition of steel, the macro inspection has largely supplemented this deficiency.

Macro inspection can observe the crystallization of steel, the destruction of the continuity of steel and the inhomogeneity of certain components.

Standard "Low-power organizational defect rating diagram of structural steel" GB1979

Eight common macroscopic defects: segregation, looseness, inclusions, shrinkage, bubbles, white spots, cracks, and folds.

2.1. Evaluation of annealing structure

The purpose of annealing is to reduce the hardness of steel, facilitate machining, and also prepare the structure for subsequent heat treatment.

The annealing structure of carbon tool steel is evaluated according to the first-level rating diagram of GB1298.

2.2. Carbide inhomogeneity

Cr12 type ledeburite steel contains a large amount of eutectic carbides in its structure. The inhomogeneity of carbides has a very important influence on the performance, so the distribution of its carbides must be strictly controlled.

In short, since the production objects of mold manufacturers and workshops are relatively complicated, and more or less single pieces and small batches, it brings certain difficulties to the formulation and management of mold production quotas. In addition, the production methods, equipment, and technical qualities of each factory and workshop are not the same. Therefore, when formulating quotas, it is necessary to find appropriate methods to formulate advanced and reasonable working time quotas based on the actual conditions of the factory and workshop to improve labor productivity.
