The 6th China International Import Expo (hereinafter referred to as "CIIE") opened in Shanghai. As a regular participant of CIIE for five consecutive years, P&G arrived as scheduled with innovative products and the latest sustainable development. At the "P&G China Sustainable Development Progress Communication Conference" held on November 6, P&G announced the progress of its "Mission 2030" sustainable development goals in China, as well as important innovations in production, product design, and sales, and announced the global debut of P&G's new paper flexible packaging Versafill memory honeycomb.

At the booth with the theme of "LifeLab Let Beautiful Life Bloom", P&G's long-term deep cultivation and latest achievements in the field of sustainable development are concentrated in the green theme exhibition area, allowing the audience to fully understand the cutting-edge technological innovation while feeling P&G's firm and beautiful commitment to consumers in sustainable development.

Xu Min, Chairman and CEO of P&G Greater China, said: "Consumer-centricity is P&G's unchanging original intention. Starting from consumers' demand for a sustainable and beautiful life, we have implemented the concept of sustainability in every factory, every brand, and every product of P&G. We hope to bring a better and more environmentally friendly life to Chinese consumers and help change consumers' every day. Not only now, but for generations to come."

Keep moving forward and steadily move towards the "Mission 2030" sustainable development goals

P&G has released its sustainable development progress at the CIIE for four consecutive years, moving forward steadily in key areas such as climate, waste, water, and nature. This year is the third year of the "Mission 2030" goal. Xu Youjie, Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Communications and Public Relations of P&G Greater China, shared the latest sustainable progress that has attracted much attention with the public.

In terms of climate, P&G's global scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced by 57% year-on-year. At the same time, P&G's factories in China have increased from 3 last year to 7 using 100% green electricity. P&G is also promoting transportation solutions in an all-round way, reducing the carbon emission intensity of finished product transportation, and taking a firm step towards carbon neutrality in 2030 operations; in terms of waste, P&G's global recyclable and reusable product packaging exceeds 79%, and all factories have achieved zero landfill of production waste. Last year, more than 60% of the packages sent out by P&G's entire network did not require secondary packaging; in terms of water resources, P&G's factories have increased their water resource utilization rate per unit output by an average of 27%, and are also actively opening up sources and promoting the reuse of recycled water. Last year, P&G factories reused more than 3.3 billion liters of recycled water in total.

Xu Youjie said: "The achievement of the interim results of the "Mission 2030" goal is inseparable from the joint efforts of brands, supply chains, communities and employees. Under the framework of the "Mission 2030" goal, we have redefined what is an excellent product: it must meet the needs of consumers, solve their pain points, and be sustainable and environmentally friendly."

From responsible production and responsible sales to advocating responsible consumption with industry partners, sustainable development has been integrated into all aspects of P&G's operations.

Breakthrough innovation, provide sustainable excellent products

Based on research and insights into consumers, P&G provides consumers with a series of excellent, environmentally friendly innovative products. Zhou Wandi, R&D Director of P&G R&D, shared relevant new breakthroughs at the communication meeting.

Head & Shoulders' new "Simple" series of anti-dandruff shampoo contains only 9 selected ingredients (referring to the 9 ingredients in the ingredient list), with a streamlined formula to effectively remove dandruff and protect consumers' scalp health. The bottle body has 35% less plastic (compared with the packaging of ordinary anti-dandruff shampoo of the same specification by Head & Shoulders, the amount of plastic used has been reduced by 35%), the soft material can be curled to help consumers "empty the bottle" smoothly, and all packaging is recyclable (only applicable to areas where recycling and reuse can be processed); the packaging of Ariel three-chamber laundry detergent pods is made of 50% recycled plastic (data from P&G, only applicable to areas where recycling and reuse can be processed), so that waste can also have a second life, and the lid of the box uses an integrated texture engraved label, which greatly reduces the use of plastic; Pantene's capsule essential oil also uses some recyclable materials (only applicable to areas where recycling and reuse can be processed.) to replace traditional packaging; Gillette Aurora knives and Braun Series 9 Peak Edition razors have also been continuously upgraded in terms of product materials and packaging while improving the durability of the products themselves.

Continuous upgrade to create an innovative and collaborative green supply chain

The supply chain connects the production end and the consumer end, and is a key link in reducing environmental footprint.

On the factory side, P&G has achieved perfect coordination of supply chain synergy and efficiency by increasing infrastructure upgrades, increasing intelligent transformation, and increasing continuous investment in environmentally friendly new technology assets, effectively improving the low-carbon operation level of the factory; at the same time, through the new upgrades of waste-free factories such as the recycling of industrial recycled plastics and the improvement of water resource efficiency, it has achieved multi-faceted "savings".

On the transportation side, P&G has expanded and upgraded its logistics network in China. The 9 manufacturing and distribution centers can compress the time from e-commerce consumers' fulfillment orders to delivery to the extreme of 4 hours, realizing that there is only one courier between smart manufacturing and consumers. The improvement of fulfillment capabilities has reduced the carbon emission intensity in the fulfillment process. In addition, P&G has also actively introduced new energy heavy trucks for use in East China and South China, using low-carbon water and land transportation instead of air transportation, effectively reducing the carbon emission intensity of finished product transportation.

In the past few years, P&G has also been constantly innovating the form and function of supply chain packaging and launching a number of new e-commerce packaging. At the event, P&G launched the world's first new paper flexible packaging-Versafill memory honeycomb. Its inspiration and elements come from nature. Through the clever design of materials, mechanics, structure and geometry, paper can be turned into a flexible package that can change according to the shape of the product and fix the product. The package has three major characteristics: flexibility - it can change according to the shape of the product, and it can be formed immediately after pressing, and it can flexibly adapt to different products; high quality - it can fix the product well, reduce product wear or deformation, and bring consumers a good opening experience; green - it is made of recyclable paper materials, and the clever stretching structure can reduce the material storage and transportation volume by up to 85% (referring to the comparison of its volume before and after forming, the data comes from P&G's internal statistics, taking P&G's smallest express box (internal dimensions of 144x175x41mm) as an example, the volume comparison of the Versafill memory honeycomb used before and after forming is 13% (before forming) vs 100% (after forming), reducing at least 85% of the volume). P&G Greater China Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Communications and Public Relations Xu Youjie, P&G Greater China Supply Chain Packaging Innovation Director Yang Wanmin and the inventor of Memory Honeycomb, P&G Greater China Innovation Packaging Manager Li Kun, demonstrated the working principle of Memory Honeycomb at the communication meeting.

"The continuous green upgrade of the supply chain not only makes the delivery faster, but also allows consumers to receive excellent products with lower carbon production, lower carbon transportation and greener packaging. From the beginning to the end, empowering brands with green supply chains and creating new value for consumers with excellence and environmental protection is our mission." Zhou Yuming, Vice President of Supply Chain, P&G Greater China, said.

Join hands and continue to expand the positive impact on the environment

This year marks the 35th anniversary of P&G's entry into the Chinese mainland market. While accompanying generations of consumers in their better lives, P&G is also committed to creating a sustainable future and making the earth's home a better place.

P&G firmly believes that the realization of sustainable development goals cannot be achieved without the joint efforts of multiple parties. Only by connecting dots and weaving threads into a network can we promote more large-scale impact and change.

P&G is working with multiple parties to promote sustainable development and actively explore new market opportunities. For example, it has jointly launched the "Soft Plastic Rebirth" project with leading industry associations and leading companies, and jointly created the environmental protection theme event "Small Actions in Life Make a Big Difference on the Earth" with partners such as RT-Mart, and actively participated in the formulation of China's first local green recycled plastic production and sales supervision chain standard to further improve China's green recycled plastic specification system.
